Tu B'Shvat
Tu B'Shvat is the Jewish New Year of the Trees. For the past three
years, we have recognized this holiday with a Tu B'Shvat seder, a ritual
meal that consists mainly of wine and fruit. Our UU seder contains
several different Tu B'Shvat themes. We touch upon the contemporary
ecological concepts of tree-planting and concern for the environment
that are practiced by modern Jews; we also experience the mystical
Kabbalistic idea of the Four Worlds (physical, emotional, intellectual
and spiritual) and give the fruit we eat a variety of symbols(social,
cosmic, ecological). The seder is also a celebration of the four
seasons.
The service is interactive and multi-generational, so there will be no
RE classes this week.
