Our Committees

Much of the work of making MMUUF run smoothly is done by our committees. Here you will find a brief description of each. If you are interested in joining a committee, contact us at the addresses below.

The MMUUF Steering Committee is responsible for the day-to-day operations and long range planning for the Fellowship. It consists of the four elected officers - President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer and representatives of the standing committees - Worship, Religious Education, and Publicity. The Steering Committee generally meets monthly throughout the year.

The committee meets every other month, and runs one fellowship-wide meeting a year. Parents and other fellowship members are encouraged to serve on this important committee.

Membership Committee

Susan Bresee: sabresee@gmail.com
Robyn Young
Friederike Keating
Gaye Symington
Regina Limoge
Kelly McCutcheon

The Membership Committee is responsible to help create and encourage a welcoming experience for MMUUF members, visitors, and newcomers so our community will continue to thrive. We provide information to visitors about MMUUF and our UU traditions through written material, information sessions, and conversation in order to help people determine if and when MMUUF Membership is right for them. New Members may sign the MMUUF Membership Book at any time during the year or at our annual Transitions Service in June. The committee members fill the role of Greeter at each Sunday Service, maintain the bulletin board in our Meeting House, and occasionally host get-togethers and activities. Our focus is to strengthen our connections to one another within the MMUUF community.

The Membership task force was initially established as an ad-hoc temporary group in 2006 to help the MMUUF Steering Committe explore the feasibility of owning a permanent worship/community building. The Membership task force examined elements such as our surrounding communities' demographics, other UU congregations successful efforts to support members and appeal to potential new members, strengths and weaknesses of our own programs from our current and past members' points of view and, perhaps most importantly, the opportunities and challenges for MMUUF to grow into a larger congregation. The task force was converted into a permanent Membership Committee to help balance the natural momentum of membership growth with the strong commitment to preserve our friendly, personal, accessible, and "small" character that our community values so highly.

The Membership Committee uses mostly email to coordinate itself and meets occasionally as needed, usually 2-3 times per year. Everyone is welcome to join the committee, provide suggestions and feedback, or simply help to develop ideas for ways we can further enhance our community.

Music Committee

Beth Esmond esmondb@bcbsvt.com
Sarah Ward

The Music Committee, also known as The Last Minute Choir is a small group of singers and musicians that provides music for all the MMUUF services. It also occasionally performs at community events. They rehearse once a week at a member's home, and on Sunday mornings right before the service. They choose appropriate music to fit the theme of the service, and their tastes are eclectic, ranging from folk to blues and spirituals to popular music. Membership in the LMC is open to everyone - all you need is a love of music and a desire to spend some quality time with a fun group of people.

Building Committee

Dana Baron dk.baron@comcast.net
John Hemmelgarn
Rick Wiesel
Karl Maisch

The Building Committee is the new incarnation of the original "Sacred Space Committee". It was officially formed at the MMUUF Annual Meeting in June, 2005. At that time it was charged with the task of seeking alternative space for the Fellowship and reporting back with a list of options to the full Fellowship. At this point the committee oversees all the operations of the Meeting House.

Nominations Committee

Dana Baron dkbaron@adelphia.net
Delia Clark

The Nominations Committee is charged with putting together a slate of officers for election each year at the Annual Meeting in June.
